I was reading through the UFC 77 conference call that transpired on Ocotber 11th and for those who are interested in knowing what happens on a UFC conference call, I think I can sum the entire call up in a few short sentences and note the obvious:
- The fighters who were on the call: Brandon Vera, Tim Sylvia, Anderson Silva, and Rich Franklin, were all very respectful of each other. I was expecting Tim Sylvia to start grunting, stomping, and cursing. Vera politely called Sylvia a fatass and Silva was muttering in some foreign language about taking his fight seriously. It was Dana White who was acting the fool, but we’ll get to that later.
- The UFC, Dana White, nor his beloved matchmaker have any idea on what to do next if Anderson Silva wins again.
- They do, however, know that “a lot” of Canadians will be on the UFC fight card in Montreal. Any judges decisions during UFC Canadia will be riddled with hometown favoritism accusations ala UFC 75. This should give us MMA writers a lot of good material. I can’t wait.
- Our beloved and scruffy UFC leader, Dana White, did not let anyone down with his responses. Asked whether he was worried about the Pride offices being closed in Japan, he replied with:
Yes, I don’t — this is about the fight in Cincinnati. I don’t want to get into PRIDE shit. If you have a question for these guys about — if you want to interview me about all the crap, call me. You can call my office. Get a hold of Jennifer.
Wow, Dana, you never cease to amaze us.
And that, folks, is what a UFC conference calls is like. Now if only I could get the conference call phone number and code for so I could heckle Dana and Co. about the UFC 78 fight card.
