Alright we’re live tonight from the Palms in Las Vegas with Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan. Obviously we’re going to open with interviews from Nate Diaz, Manny Gamburyan, BJ Penn, and Jens Pulver.
Not sure if anyone is aware of this, but Jens Pulver and BJ Penn have fought before. This has has been mentioned several times and Mike Goldberg has only been on the air for four minutes. I mean really he’s not redundant at all.
I love seeing BJ at 155. He looks so small it’s ridiculous. We should have three hours of good fights let’s see how it goes.
We open the night with Mr. SI himself Roger Huerta v. Doug Evans.
Evans is 6-0 in his MMA career, and Huerta is undefeated in the UFC.
Apparently Doug Evans is pretty big in Alaska (watch out Hawaii). Tale of the tape is pretty even…should be a good fight.
The fight starts out with some great exchanges…back and forth action…these guys are going toe to toe. I’d hate to see the cover boy curse strike Huerta.
Evans gets the take down and locks in a body triangle. He’s going for the rear naked choke. Thanks SI. Huerta defending well…Huerta back to his feet. Great action! Evans decks Huerta and gets him down again…big elbow to end the round. Great action in round number 1…10-9 Evans
In round 2 Huerta comes out throwing bombs. he looks determined to end this fight.
Evans takes Huerta down. The Alaskan will not be denied.
Huerta back to his feet, but taken down again.
Huerta reverses and begins to dominate. Evans gives up his back. This might not be a good night for Alaska. Evans is getting beaten down like Guy on “Deadliest Catch”.
The ref steps in and calls the bout due to strikes at 1:32 of round number 2.
Huerta talks us through the stoppage. It’s great when Rogan wants a talk through and we have a fighter who can actually get us through the replay.
We get a preview of UFC Stacked! Like my boy Brandt I’m pumped for this one.
Fight 2 will featue Thales Leites v. Floyd Sword
Sword is a great fighter name, but I think he’ll be out classed here.
Oh, our clock is brought to you by Transformers.
I’m really hoping Leites wins so we can watch one of those awkward talk through with Rogan.
Leites make quick work of Sword sinking in a kataka tami choke at 1:12 of round number 1.
The talk through is actually pretty good.
We’re 5o minutes into the show and Goldberg hasn’t said anything stupid yet…this might be a long night.
Fight 3 will feature two TUF 5 participants Gray Maynard and Rob Emerson.
Joe “Daddy” Stevenson is in Gray’s corner.
The bout starts with some crazy action…HUGE KNEE by Emerson. I thought Gray would walk through Emerson, but Rob is looking good so far. Emerson going for an armbar.
Goldberg says something about Emerson not making weight. I must have missed this. If anyone knows what he was talking about please let me know. Maynard may gas, he’s looking a little tired.
Maynard gets the take down, but Emerson looks good on his back.
Emerson misses a heel hook. Maynard looking better with his submission defense than he did on the show
Gray gets the take down, and Emerson gives up his back. This is not looking good for Emerson. This could be over. Maynard’s got his hooks in, but the round is coming to a close. Emerson is hurt, but he survives the round.
Round 1 10-9 Maynard
Round 2 starts with Emerson looking spent. HUGE uppercut by Maynard…Even BIGGER SLAM. Emerson Taps…Maynard wins by slam.
Maynard looks hurt…in fact he looks unconscious. Gray knocked himself out, but Emerson tapped. Luckily for Gray Emerson tapped. Maynard might not know he won. Crazy end to the fight.
WOW!!! The referee rules the fight no contest. I think many people will say this is controversial, but I thinks it’s a good call. The fans are booing like Jeff Gordon just won Talladega.
Maynard is furious. He says he wasn’t knocked out, but watching the replay he clearly was. He’s arguing with Joe Rogan about the decision.
Gray should be upset, but he was knocked out.
Emerson for some reason seem okay with the decision.
After multiple replays it’s clear that Maynard was OUT!!!
Good call by the ref…crazy end to the fight.
Moving On.
Joe Rogan interviews Bruce Lee’s daughter…she’s clearly drunk which bodes well for Rogan. In fact she thinks her father died thirty-whatever years ago. Rogan geeks out about all the Bruce Lee T-Shirts he owns. Anyway buy the new Bruce Lee T-Shirt at UFC.com.
Who’s bigger Joe Rogan or Tiger Woods???????
UFC 73 Stacked Baby!!!
Fight 4
Joe Lauzon v. Brandon Melendez
Joe Lauzon is a stud at 155. He may be the smartest fighter in the UFC. All that garbage about having a plan until you get hit doesn’t apply to Joe. He has a plan, he sticks with it, and he wins.
Melendez didn’t’ even make weight. As a fan I can’t think of anything that pisses me off more than a fighter not making weight. It’s rude, it’s sad, and it’s unprofessional. Melendez says he’s true 170 guy, but guess what…you took the fight…make the weight. I hope Lauzon destroys him.
Melendez opens up with some good shots that seem to hurt Lauzon, but Lauzon takes him down (he’s got a plan). Joe’s dropping bombs on Melendez. This could get ugly in a hurry. Joes gets full mount, and then Melendez gives up his back. Melendez alternates giving up his back and the full mount.
Melendez reverses. Melendez is on top, and shoving Lauzon against the fence. Joe stands up. Melendez has lasted longer than Pulver did against Lauzon. Of course he weighs 160lbs.
Melendez on top trying to throw bombs, but Lauzon sinks in a heel hook. It’s deep and nasty, but the round is coming to an end. Melendez survives.
10-9 for Lauzon
Round 2
Lauzon gets a quick take down, and a mount.
Lauzon takes his back, but Melendez turns out of it. He turns right into a TRIANGLE CHOKE! It’s over Joe Lauzon wins by triangle choke!
TIME FOR THE FINALS!!!
This should be a great fight. Diaz and Manny can say that they like each other all they want…these two families do not like each other.
They’re calling Manny “Manvil the Anvil”. Great, great nickname.
We get a vignette featuring Manny, who apparently hasn’t worn anything but his Team Pulver gear since the show ended.
After watching Nate’s vignette I’m pretty sure that he’ll test positive the weed just like his bro.
Manny comes out like a wild man overpowering Nate. Manny has a deep guillotine, but Nate is trying to get free. Nate gets out. Manny is powerhouse. He’s dominating this fight early. Manny’s on to slugging away at Nate.
Nate stands back up and delivers a couple shots of his own, but Manny takes him back down. Manny is pound Nate on the ground. Nate has a lot of heart, but this could be a long night for him. Manny is just out classing him.
Nate keeps going for submissions. Nate trying for a Kimura. Nate misses an oma plata. Constant submission attempts from Nate, but Manny is dictating the pace of the fight.
The Crowd is clearly behind Diaz, but Manny lands a big knee before the round ends.
Round 1 10-9 Manny
Round 2
Manny shoots…great sprawl by Nate…Nate land a couple shots…Manny taps…WTF.
Manny dislocated his should when he shot in. You can see the bone sticking out…sick. I guess that’s MMA…shit happens…Nate Diaz is THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER!!!
He gets a trophy, a watch, and a six figure contract.
No car though…that sucks!
Nate says the TUF house sucks and he wouldn’t recommend it. Now he’s giving the UFC shit about not letting his brother in the building…how about a little gratitude.
AND NOW YOUR MAIN EVENT!!!
Penn v. Pulver II
Sorry first we’re going to watch Cole Miller v. Andy Wang.
Yeah Cole beat the shit out of Andy Wang.
AND NOW YOUR MAIN EVENT!!!
Penn v. Pulver II
BJ looks to be in incredible shape. Apparently according to his T-Shirts he’s looking for Hawaiian independence.
Both fighters looks very determined and look to be in incredible shape. Jens has a completely different look than he did against Joe Lauzon. He’s ready.
Here we go!!! Penn rocks Pulver early, and takes him down. Penn showing that insane flexibility. Jens is defending well as BJ tries to make good on his promise to break Jens’ left arm.
BJ slams Jens to the mat and gets the mount. BJ goes for an armbar, and then a triangle. Jens defending well. Jens pulls out like Ron Jeremy, and now he’s on top. Jens land an elbow that gets Robbie Lawler jumping out of his seat…what a fight.
Great Round 10-9 for Penn
Round 2
Jens comes out and lands a couple of big shots, but BJ takes them well, and takes Jens down. BJ is trying for the mount, but Jens is blocking well. BJ gets the mount, and start dropping bombs. BJ gets his back, and flattens Jens out. BJ traps Jens’ arm with his leg and sinks in a rear naked choke. THE FIGHT IS OVER!!! BJ PENN WINS BY SUBMISSION!!!
The fighters hug after the bout in a great show of respect. Pulver is raising Penn’s hand in victory. This is why I love MMA…R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
Jens says that he wants to train with BJ.
Jens says that he will be dropping down to 145, and BJ will be moving up to 170. The two men who started 155 came back for one last hooray, and what a fight it was. Look out Urijah Faber and Matt Serra.
That’s all from the Palms in Las Vegas tonight, well at least from my living room anyway. It was a great night of fighting, and I’m sorry for any typo’s.
Until Next Time…Fight The Tap
